ICC Takes Action Against Nawaz With Three-Month Ban
Mohammad Nawaz, an all-rounder from Pakistan, has been banned for three months by the ICC for violating the organization’s anti-doping code. According to an ICC statement, the ban was retroactive to May 1, 2026, the day he started a voluntary provisional suspension.
when serving a two-and-a-half-month ban, which is already over, Nawaz’s provisional suspension was lifted when he agreed to a substance abuse treatment program and accepted the sentence.
The suspension will eventually be shortened to one month after the program is finished.”The 32-year-old tested positive for a Substance of Abuse (Carboxy-THC) under the ICC Anti-Doping Code following a doping test conducted after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 7.
Nawaz admitted the offence and demonstrated that the substance had been used out-of-competition and in a manner unrelated to sport performance,” an ICC media release stated.
Nawaz is being investigated after testing positive for recreational drug use.Nawaz won’t have to spend any more time of ineligibility if he successfully completes a substance abuse treatment program to the ICC’s satisfaction.
Nawaz’s records from the encounter against the Netherlands on February 7 and all following matches until May 1, 2026, have been nullified in accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code.”
Nawaz was under investigation following a positive test for recreational drug use during the T20 World Cup earlier this year, as Cricinfo first revealed in April. His contract to play for Surrey in the T20 Blast in England fell through as a result.
During his three-month suspension, he was supposed to be available for Surrey from May 26 to July 18.
Nawaz participated in every match for his PSL team, the Multan Sultans, and all seven games of Pakistan’s World Cup campaign, most recently on April 29. During Nawaz’s ineligibility, Pakistan had no white-ball commitments.
Although Nawaz has participated in six Test matches, the last one was almost four years ago, and Pakistan views him largely as a white-ball specialist.
When contacted by Cricinfo, the PCB declined to provide an official statement on the subject.
